LITIGATION PARALEGAL

Job Description

Bernstein-Burkley, P.C., a downtown Pittsburgh-based law firm, seeks a full-time litigation paralegal. The candidate will work alongside the litigation secretary to support the everyday operations of a busy general civil litigation team (two partners and two associates) in a fast-paced, high-volume office.

This position includes:

  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of testimony, exhibits, pleadings and other materials
  • Attend trials and depositions when needed, and take notes
  • Meeting with clients
  • Assist with drafting of pleadings, and court filings
  • Reviewing, organizing, and analyzing client-, matter-, or practice-group-specific resources in electronic format or hard copy
  • Organizing exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices
  • Assisting attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests
  • Preparing various correspondences to courts, clients and others as per attorney instructions
  • Scheduling appointments and depositions
  • Conducting legal research and investigations as needed and directed
  • Maintain litigation files, reviewing and preparing material for storage or disposal once a case has closed
  • Create a system for categorizing and organizing all vital case documents

Preferred Skills:

  • Independent worker
  • Knowledge of court process, and rules of civil procedure

  • Strong proofreading and organizational skills
  • Experience in prioritizing work
  • Brings issues, concerns, or discrepancies to the attention of the supervising lawyer

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Paralegal associates degree or other relevant certification
  • Extensive computer and database expertise
  • Have an applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices etc.
  • ProLaw experience preferred but not required

MARKETING INTERN

Job Description

Bernstein-Burkley seeking a highly motivated, eager individual to join our Marketing Department as an intern. Candidates must have a positive and professional attitude, strong academic credentials and strong communications skills (written and oral). It is imperative that the candidate has a genuine interest in communications and marketing, though legal industry-specific experience is not required. Candidates with some experience working in a professional setting that are following a communications, marketing or related track are preferred. Though not required, we have a particular interest in candidates that have graphic design experience.

Our interns work in a busy department alongside highly experienced professionals. The intern’s duties vary and allow for valuable hands-on experience including:

  • Drafting press releases, website and newsletter content
  • Designing firm advertisements and sponsorships
  • Planning internal and external firm events
  • Creating social media content

The ideal candidate will be able to start in May or June with a possible extension into the fall 2018 semester. The candidate will be able to work at least 10 hours per week during the summer.
